Chairside whitening is closely monitored to protect your mouth.
Your dentist can adjust the concentration and levels of the bleaching agent and will ensure your gums and other parts of your mouth are protected.
They may also have special ultra-violet (UV) lighting systems to intensify whitening.
Whitening trays prescribed by dentists for home use are custom made from an impression of your teeth.
The resulting precise fit ensures optimum comfort and effectiveness – store-bought one-size-fits-all whitening trays may leak bleach due to a poor fit, posing a risk to your gums and tongue.
Back home, you fill your prescription trays with a whitening gel – also provided by your dentist – and wear them several hours a day. Many people achieve their desired whitening in a week or two, but it may take longer.
