Have you recently lost teeth or have been told that you may lose a tooth, and are searching for a solution? If you're looking for a quick solution to fill that gap in your smile, a denture may be just the thing you've been searching for. Dentures are clipped into the mouth to cover up the gaps in your smile, restore your bite and can be removed at night for cleanings. At Pickup Bagshaw Dental, we want our patients to feel comfortable and confident in their appearance and manner, and this includes a complete smile.

What are Full/Partial Dentures?

A full denture is a denture that replaces a full arch of teeth. For some patients, they have lost all of their teeth on the top or bottom row of their smile and are feeling self-conscious and at a disadvantage when it comes to smiling, eating or talking. A full denture gives patients that complete smile again, as well as the strength to chew their favorite food and remove the denture for cleaning.

A partial denture is for patients who have multiple missing teeth that may be next to each other or in different parts of the mouth. This denture can be crafted to place artificial teeth at the toothless areas and clip into place so the denture doesn't slip out. These partial dentures are still just as effective as full dentures.

How Do They Compare to Bridges or Dental Implants?

Dentures are not the same as bridges or dental implants. Let's take a look at some of the major differences between these restorations.

Bridges

A bridge is typically constructed from three crowns and is secured over the adjacent teeth around the spot with the missing tooth. While dentures can easily replace missing teeth that are in different spaces around the mouth, dental bridges are more suited to replace one or more teeth that are next to each other.

Dental Implants

Dental implants differ from dentures wherein they are more permanent tooth replacements. Depending on how many teeth you're missing, you may qualify for individual dental implants or a dental implant-supported denture. The dental implant process also takes much longer than dentures due to the process of osseointegration.

Qualifying for Dentures

If you're missing multiple teeth or a whole arch of teeth, then dentures could be just the solution you're looking for. They can fill in the gaps in your smile, are removable for cleaning and can be molded in less time than it would take to undergo dental implant surgery.
