Crowns and Bridges
If your teeth have been physically damaged, whether due to decay or from trauma, the tooth must be protected to avoid further damage. In these cases, we recommend dental crowns to cap and protect those teeth. In addition, should you lose a tooth, a dental bridge can be made to fill the gap in your teeth. In Launceston, Pickup Bagshaw Dental can provide quality dental crowns and bridges to complete your smile again.
Dental crowns are typically constructed from porcelain and gold and are molded to mimic a tooth and fit comfortably over a tooth. They're created by taking impressions of the area and mouth; this is done with mold impressions or sometimes with digital scan impressions.
After the impressions have been taken, your crown will be constructed in a laboratory to ensure that it will fit comfortably and restore form and function. During your next appointment, we will cement the crown to your tooth and make any adjustments that are needed. Soon, you'll be ready to smile confidently once again.
Dental bridges are similar to crowns but are used when a tooth is completely lost or cannot be repaired. When preparing for a bridge, the teeth on either side of the toothless gap will be filed down or have some of the enamel removed. Once again, a mold will be made of your teeth so that the dentistry lab can create the most comfortable fitting dental bridge.
Instead of a single crown, a bridge is typically made of three or more crowns that are carved together. Once completed, the bridge is clipped onto either side of the toothless gap and secured in place with the teeth that had been filed down. The gap in your smile will be covered up and you'll have a secure, complete smile again.
Did you know that first impressions can make a huge difference upon first meeting? From a first date to a job interview, having a complete and bright smile helps others remember you too. When it's easier to smile than to frown, you'll want to ensure that your smile stays up to par. Missing teeth or decayed teeth can mar a smile and if left exposed can lead to some serious health complications down the road. Covering the gap with a dental bridge or restoring your damaged tooth with a crown can renew your sense of confidence in your appearance.
If you're looking to replace the missing tooth with something more durable and longer-lasting, we also offer dentures and dental implants. Dental implants are placed directly into the jawbone like a natural tooth, but can take anywhere from four to six months to heal. Dentures are similar to dental bridges, wherein they can cover the gap in your smile superficially.
